1654- Queen Christina of Sweden resigns and converts to Catholicism.







BATTLE OF MONTE CARLO


1665- In Battle of Monte Carlo, English, and Portuguese armies beat Spain.








CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION


1844- George Williams in London formed Young men’s Christian Association.











QUEENSLAND DAY


1859- Australia, Queensland is established as a separate colony from New South Wales.











KING GEORGE V


1921-  Southwark Bridge  in London is opened to traffic by King of the United Kingdom George V and Queen Mary.












MARIAN WRIGHT EDELMAN



1939- Marian Wright Edelman, first African- American woman to be admitted to the Mississippi Bar, founder of the Children’s Defense Fund.









PAKISTAN



1956- Pakistan becomes the first Islamic republic with the creation of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, although it is still within the British Commonwealth.








JAMES MEREDITH



1966- African American James Meredith is shot and wounded while on a solo march in Mississippi to promote voter registration among blacks.










VAMPIRE SKELETONS


2012- Archaeologists found two medieval “vampire” skeletons in Bulgaria. The skeletons had been pierced through the chest by an iron rod that was meant to pin them their graves and to prevent them from becoming vampires.
